JCCC has Record Day in Region VI Tournament Opener

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Every team has one of those days when everything they do goes wrong, and everything their opponent does goes right.  Garden City Community College had one of those days in their first round Region VI Tournament match with Johnson County Community College.  The Lady Cavaliers pummeled the Lady Broncbusters 17-0, setting team records for goals scored and margin of victory.  The victory advances JCCC to the semifinals of the tournament this weekend at Neosho County Community College in Chanute, Kan.

Individually, seven different players scored for JCCC.  Five players had multiple goals, and four recorded hat tricks.  Sophomore Andree' Volin started the barrage just 26 seconds into the game, the second fastest goal scored in team history.  Volin scored two more later in the game, and had two assists.

Freshman Danielle Langley led the way with a four-goal effort.  Her four goals are the most in a postseason game, and tie the second-best game in team history.  She also had one assist, giving her nine total points in the game, which rank second for a postseason game, and tied for fourth overall.

Freshman Chelsea Sheahan, one of the team’s top scorers this season, netted three goals and had four assists, giving her 10 total points, setting a team postseason record.  Sophomore Brittany Young also recorded four assists in the game.  Their four assist efforts set a postseason mark as well, and tie the second-best game all-time at JCCC.

The fourth hat trick was turned in by freshman defender Ashley Daniels. She scored the fifth, 10th and 17th goals of the game.  The team’s leading scorer, sophomore Fivi Mihai, had two goals and an assist in the victory.  Scoring single goals were sophomores Ingrid Bodelson and Nancy McKinley.  Bodelson was also credited with an assist.  Assists were also credited to freshmen Erin Elam and Stephanie Cooper.

Goalies Liz Casey and Amanda Shrader did not face a single shot, and were credited with a shared shutout.  The victory improves JCCC to 16-1-1.
