Strong second half propels JCCC to 8-0 win over Neosho County
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team improved to a perfect 5-0-0 on the season with an 8-0 victory over Neosho County Community College, on Wednesday afternoon, at JCCC. Leading only 2-0 at the halftime, the Lady Cavaliers netted six second half goals, fueled by the play of sophomore Rachelle Luster and freshman Danielle Blevins, who was the recipient of this week’s NJCAA D-I Player of the Week award.
A product of Shawnee Mission Northwest, Luster played a part in five of JCCC’s six second-half goals. She had three of her four assists, and a goal in the final 45 minutes. Her four total assists tie the second-best single game in team history. Blevins, a forward from Topeka, Kan., had two goals on feeds from Luster, and provided two assists, including one on Luster's goal.
Also scoring goals for JCCC were freshman Emily Leeper, sophomore Chelsea Sheahan, freshman Danielle Fesler and freshman Lara Jonusas. Sheahan also had two assists in the match.
The Lady Cavaliers look to extend their win streak this weekend with three home matches. JCCC kicks off the weekend with a Friday afternoon match against No. 14-ranked Iowa Western. They follow with a Saturday match against St. Louis-Florissant Valley and Sunday against St. Louis-Forest Park
