JCCC women’s soccer remains unbeaten

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team kept its record perfect, winning two matches in St. Louis over the weekend.

JCCC began the weekend with its second straight double-digit scoring  game, pounding St. Louis-Florissant Valley, 11-0.  Freshman Danielle Blevins, playing in her first game of the season, led the charge, netting five goals, which tie the second-best game in JCCC history. She also had two assists in the game, giving her a game total of 12 points, the third-best single-game total in JCCC history.  Her effort earned her KJCCC Player of the Week honors.

Blevins started the barrage just two minutes into the contest, and then added her second goal just seven minutes later.  She also scored the fifth, sixth and ninth goals.

Sophomore forward Rachelle Luster and freshman forward Courtney Cowan each were credited with two goals and an assist.  Luster’s assist came on Blevin's second goal.  Also scoring goals were freshman forward Emily Leeper and freshman midfielder Lara Jonusas.  Leeper, who a game earlier set a school and Region VI record scoring six goals in a game, also had two assists.  Her first came on Blevin’s firs goal, which proved to be the game-winner.  Sophomore defender Monique Richardson and sophomore midfielder Chelsea Sheahan also had two assists each.

The Lady Cavaliers followed that victory with a 7-2 win over Southwestern Illinois on Sunday afternoon.  Blevins and Luster each found the back of the net twice.  Blevins also had an assist.  Single goals were provided by Leeper, sophomore defender Ashley Daniels and freshman defender Danielle Fesler.   Sheahan had another two-assist match, and Richardson and Cowan each were credited with one assist.
