JCCC improves to 8-1-1

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The JCCC women’s soccer team improved to 8-1-1 on the season with a 4-0 road victory over Neosho County Community College, Sept. 19.  The Cavaliers scored three first half goals and added a fourth in the second period.  

Sam Pool was credited with the game-winner, scoring the matches’ first goal at 7:04 in the first period on a penalty kick.  Sophomore Rachel Luster scored the second and fourth goals, and Jessica Wishon netted the third goal.  Emily Leeper was credited with two assists, and Jessica Johnson had one.  Megan Brown earned the shutout, saving one shot.  

The Cavaliers did drop five spots to No. 12 in the NJCAA poll after suffering its first loss of the season, a 0-1 setback at Meramec.  Luster ranks fifth in the country with 35 points on 14 goals and seven assists. She led the nation last year with 103 points.  Close behind is Leeper at No. 7 with 33 points on 12 goals and nine assists. Sophomore Courtney Cowan, the KJCCC Player of the Week this week, ranks tied for 13th with 24 points on 11 goals and two assists.  Brown ranks sixth nationally with a goals against of 0.428.
