Cavaliers claim sixth women’s soccer conference title
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team, ranked 13th in the country, completed an unbeaten Kansas Jayhawk Conference season and captured its sixth conference championship in the program’s nine-year history. It is the Cavaliers first outright title since 2002. JCCC and Butler were co-champions last season.
JCCC finished 10-0-0 in the conference, and stand 18-2-1 as the team prepares for the semifinal round of Region VI Championship this weekend at Hummer Park in Topeka, Kan. The Cavaliers are vying for its third consecutive region championship, and sixth in team history. The face Dodge City, Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. A win advanced them to the championship match Sunday afternoon against the winner of the Butler/Hutchinson semifinal match.
The Cavaliers recently advanced to the semifinals with a 5-0 shutout over Allen County. Freshman Sarah Brummett scored twice and had an assist to lead JCCC to its 18th victory. Freshman Kaylee Harkins added a goal and an assist and sophomores Emily Leeper and Coutrney Cowan, two of the team’s top scorers, each scored once.
