Schwab wins 300th collegiate game
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College women’s soccer coach Jim Schwab recorded his 300th win as a collegiate head coach yesterday against Hesston College, when his Lady Cavaliers downed the first-year program, 13-1. Schwab, now in his ninth season with the women’s program, has won 144 games at the helm. He won 156 games while serving as JCCC’s men’s coach from 1990-1999.
JCCC scored early and often, netting seven goals in the first half, and six in the second. Sophomore Emily Leeper got the ball rolling just 2:42 into the contest. It was her 16th goal of the season. She also had three assists, bring her season total to 14. Overall, she ranks 15th in the nation with 46 points.
The team’s leading scorer, sophomore Rachelle Luster, scored twice and had four assists. She now has 19 goals and 16 assist totaling 54 points. She ranks tied for sixth in the NJCAA.
However, the day belonged to sophomore Courtney Cowan, who netted five goals and had one assist. Cowan scored JCCC’s second, third, sixth, eighth and ninth goals in the match. Her assist came on the seventh goal. Cowan now has 39 points on the season with 16 goals and seven assists. That total ranks her 23rd nationally.
Rounding out the scoring for the Cavaliers were freshmen Kaylee Harkins, Sarah Brummett and Abby Vestal, sophomores Lara Jonusas and Lacey Wallen. Brummett also had three assists, bringing season assist total to 13.
