JCCC keeps on rolling
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women’s soccer team improved to 4-0 on the season with a pair of victories in Chicago over the holiday weekend. JCCC began its trip with a 5-2 win over College of DuPage, and followed with an impressive 12-0 blowout over Oakton Community College.
In the opener, JCCC sophomore Rachel Luster, the NJCAA scoring champion a year ago, played a part in all five goals for the Cavaliers. Luster had two goals and three assists. Her second goal proved to be the game winner. Also scoring for JCCC was sophomore Emily Leeper, and freshmen Kaylee Harkins and Sarah Brummett.
Luster and Leeper were again key in the victory over Oakton. Luster scored four goals and had one assist. Leeper finished with three goals and one assist. Their efforts helped each reach personal milestones as well.
Luster moved into the top spot all-time in team history in career points (128), goals (44) and assists (40). Leeper moved into third spot all-time in career points with 104. She is the sixth player in team history to top 100 points in a career. She also moved into the fourth spot in career goals (41) and sixth in career assists (22).
Sophomore Courtney Cowan also had a big day, netting three shots. She also had one assist. Cowan’s effort upped her career scoring points total to 65, ranking her 10th all-time at JCCC. She also took over the eighth spot on the career goals scored chart with 27.
Rounding out the scoring for JCCC were: Jessica Johnson (1 goal), Kaylee Harkins (1 assist), Sam Pool (1 assist), Sarah Brummett (2 assists), Abby Vestal (2 assists) and Jessica Wishon (1 goal, 2 assists). Sophomore Megan Brown earned the shutout victory.
