JCCC men’s soccer post a win and a tie in St. Louis

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  The Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team came away from its trip to St. Louis with a win and a tie, improving the team’s season mark to 3-1-2.

JCCC began the weekend with an impressive 7-0 win over St. Louis-Florissant Valley.  Sophomore Jason Jacob and freshman Marlon Beach led the way, each scoring two goals.  Jacob got the JCCC on the board at the 4:43 mark of the first half on one of sophomore Shane Shadfar’s two assists.  Beach then followed with his two goals over the next seven minutes, giving JCCC a comfortable lead.

Freshmen Nathan Taylor and T.J. Nunemaker, and sophomore Jonathon Baldwin each netted one goal.  Baldwin and Nunemaker also were credited with assists.

The Cavaliers followed that victory with their second overtime tie of the season, finishing 1-1 against Southwestern Illinois.  After a scoreless first half, JCCC found the back of the net with 26 minutes remaining when Beach kicked it in after sophomore Matt Iverson served the ball toward the goal on a corner kick.

JCCC held on to their slim lead the next 22 minutes, but with just over four minutes remaining, Southwestern Illinois’ Brain Harris scored on a free kick 18 yards out, sending the match to overtime.
