JCCC men’s soccer nets eight against Hesston
Johnson County Community College |
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team broke out of its scoring slump this season, posting an eight-spot on the visiting Hesston College Larks, Wednesday afternoon. The victory also improved JCCC to 5-11-2 on the season, and kept the Cavaliers playoff hopes alive. The Cavaliers have two remaining matches, both at home, against Barton County, Oct. 13, and Independence, Oct. 18.
JCCC scored three goals in the first half, then added another five in the second against the Larks defense. Freshman David dos Santos (Brazil) got the scoring started with 19:20 remaining in the first half. His goal proved to be the game winner. However, the offensive stars were sophomore T.J. Nunemaker, a graduate of Blue Valley Northwest, and freshman Austin Knipp, the Kansas high school all-time scoring champion from Basehor, Kan.
Nunemaker recorded his first collegiate hat trick, the second from a JCCC player this season. He was credited with the fifth, sixth and seventh goals of the game. Nunemaker also was credited with the assist on dos Santos’ goal. Knipp, who has the team’s other hat trick this campaign, netted two goals against Hesston, the second and fourth in the match.
The Cavaliers other two goals were provided by sophomore Nathan Taylor ( Shawnee Mission South) and sophomore Justin Grover (Derby, Kan.). Freshmen Chris Tunison (Lee’s Summit, Mo.) and Jaipal Singh (Olathe Northwest) each had two assists. Single assists were provided by sophomore Mitch Lozenski (Leavenworth, Kan.), sophomore Marlon Beach (Keller, Texas) and freshman Michael Harris (Shawnee Mission South).
