JCCC falls to Neosho County in overtime
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- It is often said, “the third time is a charm”. however, that did not prove true for the Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team Wednesday afternoon. Playing in its third overtime game of the season, the first two which ended in ties, the Cavaliers found themselves on the losing end of this overtime match, falling to Neosho County, 3-2.
After a scoreless first half, JCCC got on the board first on a goal by Jason Jacob at the 56:20 mark of the game, but that lead was short-lived as Neosho’s Yovany Castillo knotted it a one apiece just five minutes later. Castillo have his team the lead with just 14 minutes remaining, but the Cavaliers quickly answered, one minute later on a goal by sophomore captain Matt Iverson.
The Panthers’ Eric Ooten scored the game-winner after the ball was put in play from a corner kick. The loss drops JCCC to 3-2-2 overall, while Neosho County upped its mark to 6-1-0. The Cavaliers will look to rebound with home matches this weekend against Jefferson College and St. Louis-Forest Park.
