Cavaliers rebound with a win at Coffeyville
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s soccer team held on for a 3-2 win at Coffeyville Community College, Wednesday, giving the Cavaliers its first victory of the 2006 season. JCCC dropped its season opener 2-0 at Garden City last weekend.
Sophomore Jason Jacob (Bishop O’Hara) got the Cavaliers on the board with a goal at the 15:45 mark of the first half on an assist by sophomore Matt Iverson (Shawnee Mission East).
Jacob helped JCCC up its margin to 2-0 with 13 minutes left in the half, providing an assist for sophomore Garret Stahl (Olathe North) off a free kick.
JCCC appeared on its way to blowout when Iverson gave JCCC a commanding 3-0 lead two minutes later on an assist by sophomore Shane Shadfar (Blue Valley North), but that goal proved to be the game-winner. Coffeyville’s Rodrigo Luczensky cut into JCCC’s lead with four minutes left in the first half. He added another goal six minutes into the second half, making it a 3-2 JCCC lead. The Cavaliers were able to keep the Red Ravens in check the rest of the way, securing the team’s first victory of the season. Freshman goalkeeper Andy Baron had six saves and was credited with the victory.
JCCC will look to add two more wins this weekend when they host South Suburban on Saturday, Sept. 2, at 2 p.m., and Iowa Western on Sunday, Sept. 3, at noon.
