Three Cavaliers earn soccer all-conference and all-region honors

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  Johnson County Community College’s top three offensive players for 2006 were recently selected to the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference and Region VI teams.

Sophomores Matt Iverson, Jason Jacob and Jonathon Baldwin were JCCC players selected.  Iverson was named to the first-team on both lists, and Jacob and Baldwin earned second-team accolades.  Iverson and Jacob were first-team selections last season.

Iverson, the team’s top scorer in 2005, finished his sophomore season second in points with 25.  He had 10 goals and give assists.  Iverson had three multiple-goal games in 2006, including a hat trick in an 11-3 win over Cloud County.  For his career, Iverson finished with 63 points on 27 goals and nine assists.  His 63 points tie the fourth-best career mark in team history, and he also ranks tied for fourth on JCCC’s career goals chart.  Iverson was also awarded a conference player of the week honor in week two.

Jacob led the team in scoring this season, finishing with 28 points on 12 goals and four assists. His 12 goals tie for 18th on JCCC’s season chart. Jacob also etched his name in the record books when he netted four goals in JCCC’s 11-3 win over Cloud County. He joins former standouts Scott Noernberg, Rich Carroll, Shawn Beyer and Shawn Andrews with the best single-game in team history. Jacob closed out his career with 47 points on 18 goals and 11 assists.  His 47 points rank 13th all-time, and his 18 goals tie for 15th. Jacob was a conference player of the week recipient in week three.

Baldwin finished third on the team in scoring with 18 points.  He had six goals and six assists.  Baldwin became the first player in team history to earn a conference player of the week honor twice in a season.  He earned his first honor in week five after he scored both of JCCC's goals in a tough 3-2 road loss to No. 3 ranked Mercer County (N.J.) Community College Sept. 22. His first goal erased a 1-0 deficit and his second goal evened the score again at 2-2.  The following week he again was honored when he provided the assists on all four goals scored by JCCC during that week’s action.   He was credited with three assists in JCCC's 3-1 victory over Iowa Central, and had the assist on the Cavaliers only goal in a 2-1 loss to St. Louis Meramec.
