Knipp earns conference player of the week honors

Austin Knipp
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- As a prep player at Basehor-Linwood High School, Austin Knipp had a knack for finding the back of the net.  In fact, he ended his high school playing career with 100 goals, more than any other Kansas high school player at any level.

Now a freshman at Johnson County Community College, Knipp is again making his presence felt.  Last weekend, Knipp recorded his first hat trick as a collegiate player and first for the team this season, leading JCCC to a 3-2 victory over Iowa Central, Friday afternoon. Trailing 2-0, Knipp connected for two goals late in the first half to tie the game at 2-2. Knipp's third goal came with just over five minutes left on a penalty kick.  In the Cavaliers next match, a 3-1 loss to Southwestern Illinois, Knipp scored JCCC’s lone goal.

His effort earned him the Kansas Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honor the for the week of Sept. 18-24.  He is the second player from JCCC to earn this honor in 2007, but the first field player.  Goalkeeper  Kyle Clayton earned the honor in the second week of the season.  Knipp leads the team in scoring with 11 points and five goals scored.
