Cavaliers fall golf season comes to a close
OVERLAND PARK, KS – The Johnson County Community College golf team capped its fall season by hosting the Kansas-Iowa Class at Ironhorse Golf Club in Leawood, Kan., Oct. 26 and 27. Kansas team consisted of JCCC, Dodge City and Kansas City Kansas. Iowa was represented by Indian Hills and Iowa Western. Indian Hills won the challenge with a team total of 591. JCCC’s A team finished fourth with a 624 total. The Cavaliers B team placed sixth at 653. Dan Dawson of Indian Hills was top individual medalist, firing rounds of 74 and 72.
The Cavaliers were led by Trevor Johanson. The sophomore from Maize, Kan., recorded his sixth top 10 finish of this season, and eighth of his career, placing fifth with a 36-hole total of 149. He opened play with a 78, then fought back into contention with a final round of 71. This fall, Johanson has four runner-up finishes, and one third-place and fifth-place finish. His carries a stroke average of 74.4 into the spring campaign, and remains one of the favorites to contend for the Kansas Jayhawk Conference individual title.
Other key efforts for the Cavaliers were turned in by sophomores Garrett Carver, Matt Puhr and Nate Allison. Carver placed in a tie for 11th with a 152 total (75-77). Puhr and Allison tied for 20th with a score of 161.
