Manley, Salome lead JCCC after first two rounds at NJCAA golf championship
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College freshmen Andrew Manley of Salina, Kan., and Matt Salome of Wichita, Kan. are currently among the top-25 after two rounds at the NJCAA Division I Golf Championships at the Links at Sierra Blanca in Ruidoso, N.M. Manley leads the squad with a 136 two-day total, good for eight under par and tied for 15th overall. Salome is two strokes back at 138 and tied for 25th. The team is currently 14th in the team standings at six under. The team’s 282 second-round total is the best in team history.
Manley, an all-conference performer this season, opened the tournament with a round of 67, the best round posted by a JCCC golfer in a national tournament. It ranks as the second lowest shot at any tournament in team history. Manley backed his record-setting effort with a 69, becoming the first player in team history to post two rounds in the 60s in a national championship. Manley
Salome, also an all-conference performer this season, opened play with the second lowest round recorded in a national tournament, firing a 68. He nearly joined Manley with back-to-back rounds in the 60s, but settled for a second-round 70.
Aaron Odom, the only sophomore on the squad this season, also fired a round of 69 in the second round, which helped recover from a first round effort of 77. He is currently tied for 71st with a two-day total of 146, two shots over par. Odom finished tied 31st last year. He also struggled in the first round at last year’s championship, then came back with three impressive rounds to move up the leader board.
