JCCC’s Elafros wins third KJCCC Designated

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  Johnson County Community College sophomore golfer Mike Elafros, a graduate of Shawnee Mission South High School, was top medalist at the third Kansas Jayhawk Conference Designated Oct. 8, at Quail Ridge Golf Course in Winfield, Kan.  He fired a 36-hole total of 144, one stroke better than Wes Nichols of Hutchinson.  However, the Blue Devils team edged the Cavaliers for top team honors, scoring a team total of 592, six ahead of JCCC’s 598 score.

Elafros fired back-to-back even par rounds of 72 to capture top honors, his first win of his collegiate career.  He also lowered his season stroke average to a team-best 74.3.  Elafros began the season with at third-place finish in the first Conference Designated.

JCCC had two other players finish in the top-10.  Sophomore Nate Sargent, also a Shawnee Mission South graduate, placed tied for fifth with a 150 total (74-76), and freshman Miles Christensen placed tied for  ninth with a 152 total (74, 78).  This was Christensen’s third straight top-10 finish.

Rounding out the Cavaliers scoring were sophomore Keith Erickson and freshman Seth Haight.  Erickson tied for 14th with a 154 (78-76), and Haight tied for 16th with a 155 score (77-76).
