Heinrich chosen as NATYCAA officer for 2007-08

Carl Heinrich OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Carl Heinrich, athletic director at JCCC, was recently selected to serve as third vice president of the National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA).  Also elected to serve NATYCAA for the 2007-08 year were 1st Vice President Kevin McCarthy, athletics directors at SUNY Cobleskill; 2nd Vice President Dave Evans, athletics director at San Diego Mesa Community College; 3rd Vice President Carl Heinrich, athletics directors at Johnson County Community College. Thomas Stewart, athletics director at Holyoke Community College will continue as secretary, while Past President Scott Geddis, athletics director at Phoenix College will become treasurer.  The NATYCAA chose Bob Myers, athletics director at Solano Community College, to serve as president for 2007-08.

The leader behind one of the nation’s more successful athletics programs, Carl Heinrich begins his eighth season as athletics director at JCCC.  Heinrich has guided JCCC through some of the school’s most dynamic times since assuming the position as JCCC’s fourth athletics director in the fall of 2000. Heinrich has been associated with Johnson County, either as a coach or administrator since the fall of 1991.  He oversees a 38-year-old department that now fields 18 varsity sports, and continues to lead the Johnson County Community College athletics program in a positive direction.

This past year, JCCC teams and athletes added another amazing chapter to the school’s list of accomplishments, capped by finishing third in the nation in the Pepsi/The National Alliance of Two Year College Athletic Administrators Cup Award which recognizes program program excellence in two-year college athletics at the national level.  JCCC has a sixth-place, second-place and two third-place finishes in the four-year history of the award.

At the conclusion of the spring 2007 season, all 18 NJCAA sanctioned teams at JCCC qualified for postseason or championship play.  Fourteen of those teams qualified for their national tournament, with 12 finishing in the top 10 in the country.  Seventeen of the 18 teams were ranked at some point before, during or after the season.  JCCC teams won five conference titles, and finished runner-up six times.  The Cavaliers won seven Region VI championships, and had two second-place finishes.  Individually, JCCC athletes earned 92 All-America honors, 131 All-Region VI honors and 166 were named as an all-conference athlete.

Now in its 21st year, NATYCAA is the professional organization of two year college athletics administrators and membership is open to all two year institutions from throughout the country. The Association is administered by NACDA, now in its 43rd year. NACDA is the professional and educational association for more than 6,500 college athletics administrators at more than 1,600 institutions throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. More than 2,000 athletics administrators annually attend the NACDA Convention.

Additionally, NACDA administers 10 professional associations for the separate business units that report directly to the athletics director. NACDA also operates the U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup program, which honors the four all-sports champions in NCAA Divisions I, II and III; and the NAIA. The Association has an awards program that includes the James J. Corbett Memorial Award, the highest administrative award presented in intercollegiate athletics; the AstroTurf Athletics Director of the Year (ADOY) Award, honoring the top-29 athletics directors by division across the country; and the Coca-Cola Community All-American Awards, recognizing seven student-athletes by division for their community service efforts. NACDA also provides a daily web clip service, the NACDA Daily Review; and a bi-monthly magazine, Athletics Administration.
