OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College women’s cross country team won its 13th East Jayhawk Conference cross country championship, and the seventh under head coach Mike Bloemker, last week at the KJCCC/Region VI Cross Country Championship in Garden City, Kan.  The team also finished a close second to a nationally ranked Butler County squad in the Region VI standings.   The championship meet was held on a very hilly Buffalo Dunes Golf Course.

JCCC freshman Felicia Fleming (Marlow, Okla), led JCCC by winning the conference individual title, marking the 10th straight year a JCCC runner has claimed top conference honors.   She also finished fourth in the region standings, finishing with a time of 20:11.49.  Her effort earned East Jayhawk All-Conference and All-Region VI accolades.

JCCC runners joining Fleming in the top-10 in the conference standings were freshman Jackie Jamison (Quinter, Kan.) Esther Mathias (Kansas City, Kan.).  Jamison placed fourth in the conference and 14th in the region with a time of 21:22.88.  Mathias was close behind, placing fifth and 15th respectively with a time of 21:24.50.  Both runners earned all-conference and all-region honors for their performances.

Joining those three as an all-conference performer was freshman Tara Arneson of DeSoto, Kan.  Arneson placed sixth in the conference standings with a time of 21:47.33.  She also placed 17th in the region, just two places shy of earning all-region.
