JCCC men harriers runner-up Baker’s Maple Leaf Invitational
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College men’s cross country team opened its 2007 season with an impressive second-place effort at the Baker University Maple Leaf Invitational, Sept. 1, in Baldwin City, Kan. All seven JCCC runners finished in the top-15, the most of any team. However, Mid America Nazarene went 1-2-3, and edged JCCC in the overall team competition.
Leading the way for the Cavaliers was sophomore Alex Troncoso of Kansas City, Mo. Troncoso placed fifth overall in the 5k race, posting a time of 16:21.44. That effort ranks as the 14th-best performance in JCCC history.
Closed behind was sophomore Keith Cowart of Baldwin City. Cowart used his local knowledge racing to a sixth-place finish with a time of 16:23.29. His effort ranks 16th all-time at JCCC.
Other top-10 finishers were sophomores Matt Bilhimer of Overbrook, Kan., and Trevor Johannsen of Clinton, Mo. Bilhimer placed eighth overall with a time of 16:32.99. Johannsen was ninth with a time of 16:35.96. Those efforts rank 23rd and 24th all-time in Cavaliers’ history.
Rounding out the JCCC contingent were freshman Jason Rose of Louisburg, Kan. (12th-16:41.52), sophomore Daniel Everhart of Kansas City, Kan. (13th-16:46.15) and sophomore Grant Catloth of Baldwin City, Kan. (15th-16:55.75).
JCCC will host the annual Cavalier Cup on Friday, Sept. 7, at 6 p.m.
