Heideman wins Baker’s Maple Leaf Invitational
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College sophomore Christa Heideman, a nine-time All-American as a freshman, opened the 2007 cross country season with an individual victory Saturday afternoon at the Baker University Maple Leaf Invitational. The Wamego native topped the field of 86 runners, completing the 3,200-meter course in 11:52.61. That time ranks as the seventh-best performance in team history at that distance, and third-best effort at Baker in Cavaliers’ history.
JCCC had three other runners finish in the top-20 overall, all freshmen. Courtney Price of Wamego placed 18th with a time of 12:48.27. Close behind was Francis Gipson of Shawnee Mission North, placing 19th with a time of 12:49.36. Andrea Young of DeSoto, Kan., was 20th overall with a time of 12:58.08.
Rounding out JCCC’s team were freshman Temer Yimer of North Kansas City, Mo. (25th-13:03.86), freshman Heather Koochie of Freeman, Mo. (37th-13:39.13), freshman Renae DuPree of Shawnee Mission Northwest (51st-14:03.59) and freshman Heather Closterman of Higginsville, Mo. (52nd-14:04.01).
