Heideman wins Cavalier Cup

OVERLAND PARK, KS --  Johnson County Community College sophomore Christa Heideman, a nine-time All-American as a freshman, posted her second straight individual victory, topping the field at the Cavalier Cup, Friday, Sept. 7.  Heideman crossed the finish line in 12:13, 26 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor.  The Wamego native opened the 2007 cross country season with a victory at the Baker University Maple Leaf Invitational.  

JCCC had four other runners finish in the top-10 overall, all freshmen. Courtney Price of Wamego placed sixth with a time of 13:02.  Close behind were Andrea Young of DeSoto, Kan. and Temer Yimer of North Kansas City, Kan.  Young placed seventh in 13:04, and Yimer finished eighth in 13:06.  Heather Kochie of Freeman, Mo., placed 10th with a time of 13:30.  

Francis Gipson of Shawnee Mission North, placing 19th with a time of 12:49.36.  Andrea Young of DeSoto, Kan., was 20th overall with a time of 12:58.08.

Rounding out JCCC’s team were freshman Sam Gros of Wamego, Kan. (13:57), freshman Renae DuPree of Shawnee Mission Northwest (16th-14:07), ) and freshman Heather Closterman of Higginsville, Mo. (18th-14:13 and freshman Kaitlyn Flynn of Hutchinson, Kan. (14:13).
