OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Katy Davenport, a former two-time All-American and  No. 2 scorer all-time in JCCC women’s basketball history, was recently selected as The Summit League’s Women’s Basketball Newcomer of the Year in voting conducted by the league’s 10 head coaches, sports information directors and selected media members.

In her first year at Western Illinois University, Davenport averaged 10.8 points and 4.1 rebounds per game, helping the Westerwinds to a 14-15 record, and a 12-6 mark in league play.  Davenport scored a career high 23 points against South Dakota State on Jan. 14.  She was also named to the All-Summit League Newcomer Team.

Davenport ended her career at JCCC ranked among the all-time great players in team history.  She was named NJCAA third-team All-America as a freshman, and was selected to the first-team her sophomore season.  She averaged 19.8 points per game in 2006-07, and ended her career as JCCC’s No. 2 scorer all-time with 1,293 points.  She was just the third player in team history to top 1,000 points in a career.
