Stone leads Cavaliers to win over Allen County

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College sophomore reserve forward Misty Stone recorded her best night as a collegiate player Saturday while leading the Cavaliers to an 80-72 road win against Allen County Community College. Stone, a native of Hoyt, Kan., poured in a game-high 19 points, hitting 6-of-8 shots from the field, and 7-of-10 at the line. She also pulled down six rebounds. Her effort helped the No. 4 ranked Cavaliers improve to 12-3 on the season, and up its conference record to 2-1.

Other key efforts were turned in by sophomores Megan Waggoner, Bethany Schwab and Brittney Slifer. Waggoner finished with 16 points and nine rebounds, Schwab hit for 15 points, nailing 5-of-7 3-point shots, and Slifer had 10 points with three 3-pointers and a free throw. Slifer also had five rebounds and four assists. Freshman Katie Buenger continued her strong play, finishing with nine points and six rebounds.

Allen County’s Brittany Johnson led all players in both scoring and rebounding, posting a double-double of 28 points and 14 rebounds. The Cavaliers won the game at the line and from downtown. JCCChit 23-of-35 free throws and nailed nine 3-pointers. Allen County shot just 17 free throws, hitting 10, and was 4-of-15 from 3-point range.
