OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College sophomore guard Bethany Schwab has been selected to the 2008 Junior College/Community College State Farm Coaches’ All-America Basketball Team.  Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and State Farm recently released this year’s recipients.  A total of 21 players from Division I and Division II were selected.   This year’s team marks the first State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team, as Eastman Kodak held the previous sponsorship for 25 years.  Schwab  earned honorable mention honors.  She joins Becca Boan as the only players in JCCC history to earn this honor.

This season, Schwab averaged 9.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game, helping the Cavaliers to a fifth-place finish in the NJCAA D-II National Tournament and a school record 28 victories.

However, Schwab’s forte is her deadly long range shot.  The sophomore from Wellsville, Kan., set the single game, season and career records for three-point baskets made.  She made 102 three-pointers this season, breaking the old record of 88 held by Boan.  Schwab is one of only seven players in Kansas Jayhawk Conference history to hit over 100 three-point baskets in a season.  She hit 167 in her two seasons at JCCC, breaking the previous career mark by 45.

Schwab established the single-game mark of nine three-point baskets earlier this year in an 82-81 victory over Jones County in the final game of the Hoop ‘N Surf Classic in Honolulu.  Schwab finished with a career high 29 points in that win, and was named to the All-Tournament team.  She also garnered the NJCAA Division II National Player of the Week following her efforts in Hawaii.

Schwab also ranks among the program’s most accurate three-point shooters.  She made just over 40 percent (167-of-412, .405) in her career, which ranks her third all-time.  She it .43 percent from long range as a freshman, the second-best season mark all-time at JCCC.
