JCCC easily handles Brown Mackie

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- After dropping their season opener at Southeast Community College 50-63 on Nov. 1, Johnson County has won two straight over Region VI D-II opponents, already putting the Lady Cavaliers in the driver’s seat for the No. 1 seed for the Region VI Tournament in March.  JCCC defeated Hesston College on the road last weekend, 86-64, then blasted Brown Mackie College in JCCC’s home opener Wednesday night, 83-42.

The Lady Cavaliers took control early and led 46-12 at the break.  Three players scored in double figures for JCCC, led by sophomore All-American Katy Davenport with 17 points.  She also hauled down 10 rebounds.   Through three games, Davenport is averaging 19.7 points and 9.0 rebounds.  Freshmen Meghan Waggoner and Erica Rothweiler followed with 14 and 10 points respectively.

Freshmen Brittnay Slifer, Heather Rourk and Misty Stone nearly recorded a double-double.  Slifer finished with nine points, a game-high 12 rebounds, five steals and four assists.  Rourk had eight points and nine rebounds, and Stone hauled down 10 caroms and had eight points.  Sophomore point guard Jackie Smith scored just two points, but did an outstanding job of distributing the ball, dishing out nine assists. Rounding out the scoring were freshmen Emily Larson and Megan Lotspeich, finishing with eight and seven points respectively.
