Davenport scores 1,000th point in loss to Allen County

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College sophomore All-American center Katy Davenport recorded a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds, and became just the third player in JCCC history to score score 1,000 points in a career Wednesday night against Allen County. However, it wasn’t enough as JCCC fell to the Red Devils 65-57.

Davenport, who entered the game needing just five points to reach 1,000, scored the milestone point with a free throw, completing a three-point play early in the first half.  She joins former All-Americans Lisa Kirby and Tonya Baucom in JCCC’s 1,000 point club.  Davenport leads the team and ranks fourth in the country with a 21.9 points per game average.

Key effort were also turned in by freshman Meghan Waggoner (12 points, six rebounds), sophomore Jacky Smith (five points, eight assists), freshman Heather Rourk (nine points, six rebounds) and freshman Bethany Schwab (nine points).  But the outside shooting of Joanna Ortiz and the inside play of Taylor Snider proved to much for JCCC.  Ortiz hit five 3-point baskets and finished with 18 points.  Snider added 16 points and pulled down a game-high 14 rebounds.
