OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College women’s basketball team downed Highland Community College 88-61 on the road Monday night, giving Debbie Carrier her 200th victory as the Cavaliers head coach. The victory improved JCCC to 12-5 on the season. Now in her 11th season at JCCC, Carrier’s career record is 200-151. Carrier has a phenomenal record against her NJCAA D-II counterparts during her tenure, compiling a 78-17 record (.821), including a 27-7 mark (.794) in postseason play since 1999-00, the year JCCC became a D-II program.
In the victory over Highland, JCCC jumped to a commanding 20-point lead in the first half, then cruised to the win the second half. Freshman guard Brittney Slifer of Warrensbutg, Mo., led the Lady Cavaliers with 20 points. Slifer hit a perfect 6-of-6 from 3-point range, and finished 7-of-9 overall from the field. Also in double figures were sophomore Jacky Smith (Blue Valley North) and freshman Heather Rourk (Iola, Kan.) with 14 points each, and sophomore Katy Davenport (Manhattan, Kan.) with 10 points.
