No. 6 JCCC downs No. 3 Penn Valley
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The defending national champion Johnson County Community College men's basketball team, ranked sixth in the NJCAA preseason poll, knocked off No. 3 ranked Penn Valley, 93-76, tonight. The Cavaliers improve to 3-0 on the season, while the Scouts fall to 3-1.
For the second straight game, JCCC had six players finish in double figure scoring. Preseason All-American Kyle Speed led all scorers with 23 points.
He also had nine rebounds, three assists and four steals. Freshman Ronnie Boggs followed with 19 points, hitting a sizzling 8-of-11 shots. He also had 12 rebounds. Also in double figures were freshman Ryan Magzdziarz with 15, sophomore Haydon Parks with 11, and sophomore Jason Payton and freshman Ross Ellrich each finished with 10 points. Ellrich also pulled down 11 boards and blocked two shots.
Tyrone Hooker paced Penn Valley with 21, followed by Brandon Coleman with 15.
