Men's Basketball Player of the Week Selections for Feb. 6, 2008
Division I Mehdi Cheriet (Albert Thomas High School; Terrere, France) from Arizona Western College has been named NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week ending Feb. 3. Cheriet helped lead the nationally ranked Matadors to two victories over Region 1 foes last week. On Jan. 30 against defending Regin 1 DII champ Phoenix College, Cheriet was hot from the three-point line hitting five three's and scoring 20 points overall in the 101-63 victory. He also pulled down eight rebounds in the win over the Bears. He followed that up on Feb. 2 with a strong performance against Yavapai College, scoring 17 points, including two three-pointers, and pulling down six rebounds in an 87-74 victory. With his peformances last week, he now has the sixth-best three-point shooting percentage in Region 1 (47.4%). Season Statistics for Mehdi Cheriet	Mehdi Cheriet
Division II Carl Lee (Toll Gate High School; Warwick, R.I.) of Community College of Rhode Island is Co-Player of the Week for NJCAA Men's Division II Basketball for contests ending Feb. 3. Lee scored a career-high 33 points along with 10 rebounds and three steals in a 93-83 win over the Naval Academy Prep School on Jan. 30. He also scored 20 points to go with five rebounds and two assists in a 80-70 victory over Mercer County Community College on Jan. 26. Season Statistics for Carl Lee Nafis Ricks (Lamberton High School; Philadelphia, Pa.) of Johnson County Community College (Kan.) is also Co-Player of the Week for NJCAA Men's Division II Basketball this week. Ricks averaged 28.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals in JCCC's two games last week. He shot 64 percent from the field and 70 percent from the free-throw line. He had 26 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three steals in leading the Cavaliers to a 75-61 road victory Highland Community College on Jan. 30. He followed with a career-high 31 points, along with 11 rebounds, two assists and two steals in a near upset over Division I nationally ranked Independence Community College on Feb. 2. Ricks is JCCC's leading scorer (15.3 ppg) and rebounder (7.7 rpg) this season. This is the second NJCAA Player of the Week award for Ricks this season.
