Patton powers JCCC to win

Patton OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College freshman forward Fred Patton had one of those “zone” moments in the Cavaliers 74-56 home win over Fort Scott, Monday night.  Patton hit two 2-point baskets, a 3-pointer, pulled down three rebounds and dished out two assists in the first five minutes of the second half, helping JCCC build a five point lead into a 21 point advantage.

Patton finished with 14 points and a 14 rebounds, both career highs.  He hit 6-of-9 shots from the field, including a 3-pointer, and was 1-of-2 at the free throw line.  Five of his 14 rebounds came on the offensive end.

Other key efforts were turned in by freshman David Yadrich, who came in off the bench to pour in a game-high 15 points. Yadrich hit four shots, three from 3- point range, and was 4-of-6 at the charity stripe.  Sophomore Jonathan Jackson and freshman Anthony Dobson were also in double figures with 12 and 10 points respectively.  Jackson also had four rebounds and five assists.  Freshman guards Kyle Speed and Nafis Ricks each contributed eight points.  Ricks also had eight boards, three assists and two steals.  Speed added four assists and three steals.

The win improves JCCC’s season mark to 11-7 overall, to to 3-3 in the East Jayhawk Conference.  The Cavaliers look to win its third straight game in the conference Wednesday night, when they host cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas at 7 p.m.
