Jeffers to take medical leave of absence

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County Community College announced today head men’s basketball coach Mike Jeffers has be granted a medical leave of absence for an undetermined period of time.   Jeffers is expected to return to the program.  JCCC assistant coach Zac Roman will take over on an interim basis.  Any questions regarding the basketball program at Johnson County Community College should be directed to coach Roman.  He can be reached at 913-469-8500, ext. 4632.

Jeffers is in his 16th season as the Cavaliers head coach.  He has compiled a 257-236 record at JCCC, and stands 341-279 in 20 years as a head collegiate coach.  The Cavaliers are 5-10 overall this season.  Jeffers guided JCCC to a NJCAA Division II national championship in 2001, and four Region VI titles in the last seven seasons.

Roman, now in his fourth season at Jeffers’ top assistant, has helped coach JCCC to Region VI titles in 2004 and 2006, and a runner-up finish in 2005.  Roman joined the staff after serving two seasons as an assistant coach to Bernie Pearson at Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School in Wichita, Kan.
