JCCC falls to No. 3 Brown Mackie

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County fell from the unbeaten ranks Wednesday night in a battle for the top spot in the Region VI Division II standings.  Brown Mackie College, ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA preseason poll, edged escaped the JCCC Gymnasium with a 80-74 victory.

The Cavaliers easily could have defeated the Lions, but 32 turnovers and 19 missed free throws doomed the Johnson County.  Tied at 39 at the break, the Lions built a six point lead early in the second half, and built their lead to as high as 14 with just over five minutes remaining. However, the Cavaliers kept battling, cutting their deficit to six with 51 seconds left in the contest.

Sophomore Corey May continued his stellar play, finishing with 23 points, hitting 6-of-10 from the field, and 10-of-12 from the line. Freshman Anthony Spencer followed with a 16 point, 10-rebound effort, and sophomores Aaron Linn added 11  and nine points respectively. Freshman Patrick Nemechek had  a solid effort as well, finishing with seven points and eight rebounds.
