OVERLAND PARK, KS -- Johnson County pulled off an amazing come-from-behind victory over Labette Wednesday night, edging the Cardinals 107-104 in double overtime.
JCCC trailed by 10 points with 2:32 remaining in the regulation, but two-point and three-point baskets by Aaron Linn and a three-pointer by Cory May in the final 35 seconds sent the game to overtime. Both teams struggled in the first overtime, only scoring four points each. Labette’s leading scorer Sean High hit two free throws with 15 second left to send the game to a second overtime. Labette took the command early in the second overtime, leading by five with 2:58 left. The Cavaliers fought back, and with 47 seconds left, Russell Revels’ jumper on the base line gave JCCC its first lead since early in the contest.
Ismar Neto, Labette’s top scorer with 36 points, appeared to have send the game to a third overtime when he hit two free throws to tie the game with four seconds left, but May’s desperation shot at the buzzer hit all net, and gave JCCC a thrilling three-point win. May finished with 28 points, hitting 12-of-15 shots, including two three-pointers. He also had 11 rebounds. Anthony Spencer also had a big night, finishing with 27 points and 18 rebounds. Linn added 20 points, six rebounds and four steals before fouling out early in the first overtime period. Jonathan Jackson chipped in 17 points and had nine rebounds and six assists. The win upped JCCC’s record to 10-15 overall.
