Cavaliers improve to 2-0

The Johnson County Community College men’s basketball, ranked eighth in the NJCAA, improved to 2-0 on the season with a 98-70 victory at home over Hesston, Saturday afternoon.

The Cavaliers only led by four at the break, but outscored the larks by 24 in the second half.  Strong defensive pressure and accurate shooting led the going away victory.  JCCC shot 63 percent from the field in  the second half.  Freshman Nafis Ricks led the Cavaliers with a game-high 24 points. He was 8-of-10 from the field and 8-of-10 at the line.  Kyle Speed followed and Eddy Jean-Pierre followed with 18 and 16 points respectively.  Speed also had seven assists.  Jonathan Jackson, the team’s top scorer in the season opener, finished with 10 points.  Melvin Cole and Q Totta chipped in nine points each, and Fred Patton contributed seven points and six rebounds in the victory.

JCCC’s next game is against Penn Valley Community College on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
