Cavaliers fall short against Coffeyville
OVERLAND PARK, KS -- For the second time this season, the Johnson County Community College men’s basketball team handed perennial conference power Coffeyville Community College a scare, only to come up short in the end. The Ravens edged the Cavaliers 74-73 to remain on top in the East Jayhawk Conference standings. JCCC lost at Coffeyville in overtime earlier this season.
Coffeyville’s Barry Eberhardt hit the first of two free throws with just three seconds on the clock, providing the one point margin of victory. Eight seconds earlier, JCCC sophomore Aaron Linn scored two of his game-high 29 points to knot the game at 73. Coffeyville quickly got the ball down the floor to Eberhardt near the top of the key. He drove the lane and drew the foul, sending him to the line. Eberhardt led Coffeyville with 21 points.
Linn, the team’s leading scorer this season, hit 10-of-22 shots, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range. He was 4-of-6 from the line. Linn also added five rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Freshman Jonathan Jackson followed with 16 points, hitting 6-of-11 shots and 4-of-5 free throws. He also dished out five assists. Freshman Anthony Spencer recorded his second straight double-double, posting 14 points and 13 rebounds in the one-point loss. Sophomore Corey May added 10 points and 11 rebounds before fouling out midway through the second half.
