Baseball having solid fall campaign

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College  baseball team has reached the midway point to their fall season and the coaching staff is very happy with the progress that they have made during the first half.  The Cavaliers are off to a 12-0 start against outside competition and have been executing the little things that the coaches have stressed all fall.

JCCC schedule has included the Croatian National Team, Longview (D II Juco National Champions), Butler County Community College (Jayhawk West Champions), and several other four year universities / high school select traveling teams.  The team returns several key position players from last year’s squad that went 30-20 and captured a second place finish in the Jayhawk East Division.  The pitching staff is going to be very young with only three returning from a year ago.

“We have had a great fall to date but we have a long way to go if we want to contend for a Jayhawk East title,” said head coach Kent Shelley.  “ The Jayhawk Conference is one of the best junior college conferences in the country and in order to compete, you must be near perfect day in and day out.”

JCCC will resume play at home against Rockhurst, Wednesday, October 10 at 3:00.
