Dustin Holthaus commits to Washburn
Johnson County Community College |
| Dustin Holthaus |
Holthaus, a sophomore captain for the 2008 Cavaliers, is currently 5-1 overall with a 3.00 earned run average. His five wins are second on the staff, and he is tied for the team lead with three complete games. His most recent complete game was a 7-4 win over Fort Scott, April 1. In that win, Holthaus scattered four hits and struck out five to lead the Cavaliers to their 19th win on the season.
In his two years in a Cavaliers uniform, Holthaus has produced a 2.24 ERA in 84 innings of work, and has a career record of 11-3. He is just four wins shy of the all-time career mark in team history.
“Dustin is a true leader on and off the field,” said head coach Kent Shelley. “He is one of those special players that do not come around too often. He works hard and competes his tail off. He is going to be missed next year, but we are happy he is returning home to Topeka and playing for a quality program like Washburn.”
As a freshman, Holthaus finished with a record of 6-3 and posted an earned run average of 1.60, best among the Cavaliers starting rotation. His ERA also ranked as the 11th best in Kansas Jayhawk Conference history by a pitcher with a minimum of 30 innings pitched.
