JCCC continues to split in conference play
OVERLAND PARK, KS – The JCCC baseball split another series, their sixth of the season. This time it was with cross-town rival Kansas City Kansas. The Blue Devils downed the Cavaliers 4-2 in the game, but JCCC came back to get the win in the second game, 3-1.
In the first game, the Cavaliers could not seize the moment and capitalize on three KCK errors. JCCC had runners on third, with less than two outs on several occasions and couldn't get the job done.
In the first inning, the offense came out firing, and put up two runs in the off KCK starter Keith Spreckles. After that the offense went cold and did not score in the next six innings of the game. Kyle Crandall took the loss, working five innings, allowing three runs to score. Nate Templeton came in the sixth to keep the game close, but a two out error gave KCK an insurance run and a 4-2 win.
JCCC needed a big pitching performance in game two. Tim Brown did that and more, and got a complete game win. Brown pitched all seven innings, allowing five hits, and only one run. The win upped his season mark to 2-3, and dropped his ERA to 2.96. Brown attacked hitters all day and mixed speeds well, baffling the KCK hitters.
The offense once again shot out of the gate, scoring three runs in the first two innings of play. Jeremy Francis led off the game with a double, and two batters later Nick Giuliani hit a sacrifice fly to score him. In the second inning, Chris Dobler led off with a double, followed by Doug Otto and Eddie Torres with RBI at bats for JCCC. That would prove to be all the offense the Cavaliers would need to get the win 3-1.
