Cavaliers fall in 14 inning in season opener

OVERLAND PARK, KS -- The Johnson County Community College baseball team lost its season opener to Longview, 4-3, in 14 innings Wednesay afternoon.  It is the longest game played in JCCC history.  The Cavaliers trailed 3-0 in the bottom of the seventh inning, but scored three time to send the game into extra innings.

Chris Dobler got the inning started by reaching first on a an error by the Longview second baseman.  Douglas Otto followed with a single, then Eddie Torres moved both into scoring position with a successful sacrifice.  Justin Miller, who earlier had a single and triple, ripped his third hit of the game, driving in Dobler and Otto.    Miller stole second base and scored on Kyle Byler’s single.  Miller was also effective on the mound in relief.  He allowed just one one hit in three innings, and struck out six batters.
In the extra innings, JCCC had a runner on third base with less than two outs on three occasions but failed to get the run home.
