Scholarship Application Information
Divider

JCCC offers a variety of scholarships funded through the JCCC Foundation Office and through Student Activity funds, all to qualified applicants. Students may receive more than one scholarship though usually only one JCCC general college scholarship will be offered to a student. But a student may also apply for a variety of departmental scholarships, student activities scholarships and outside agency scholarships and thereby receive more than one scholarship.

JCCC scholarships are primarily categorized into two basic groups.

The first type includes JCCC general scholarships in which the Student Financial Aid office selects recipients.

  • To apply for these scholarships, students must have a completed online scholarship application on file before April 1, have a current JCCC application for admission on file with the Admissions office and must be degree or certificate seeking.
  • Fifty percent of these scholarships are need-based, requiring a completed FAFSA prior to the April 1 deadline, and the others are merit-based and do not require a FAFSA on file.

April 1st is the "priority deadline". All applications received after April 1st will be considered depending on funds available.

The second basic type of scholarship includes departmental scholarships, which require JCCC campus departments to select recipients.

  • To apply for departmental scholarships, students need to contact each JCCC department about scholarships that interest them.
  • Students must also have a current JCCC application for admission on file with the Admissions office.

What is the difference between need-based scholarships and merit-based scholarships?

  • Financial need-based scholarships are based on an evaluation of the family’s financial strength. The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is used for this evaluation.
  • Merit-based scholarships are not based upon the family’s financial strength. Rather, these scholarships are based on criteria such as academic achievement and/or exceptional skills or talents.

Some state and institutional scholarships are awarded only to Kansas residents, with priority given to Johnson County residents. But there are many others available to non-Kansas residents and those will be specifically indicated in this brochure.
