Divider

Johnson County Community College
Series 400: Personnel
Section 419: Employee Benefits

If the college is temporarily closed by order of the president due to inclement weather, power failure or other similar cause, any employee who was regularly scheduled to work during the hours the college is closed shall be compensated at the straight-time rate for the hours he/she would have worked had the college remained open. If the temporary closing is for a full working day, any previously approved vacation, sick leave, floating holiday, or personal leave shall not be charged against an employee's leave time. However, if the college is temporarily closed for a portion of any working day, employees who are absent from work on that day as a result of a scheduled or authorized leave as defined above shall have such leave charged as if the college had remained open. Any employee absent from the college on a long-term leave such as a sabbatical, extraordinary leave, short-term disability, etc. during a time when the college is temporarily closed for either a full or part day shall continue to have such leave charged as if the college had remained open.

Any classified employee who is required to remain at work even though the college was temporarily closed shall be compensated for his/her regularly scheduled hours plus the regular overtime rate consistent with the college’s overtime policy for any time worked during the time the college was closed. If a classified employee is called in to work during the time the college is temporarily closed when it is his/her scheduled day off, the employee will be compensated at the regular overtime rate consistent with the college’s overtime policy for the hours worked. A temporary college closing officially ends at midnight. If a classified employee is required to remain at work or is called in to begin work on a day the college is temporarily closed and his/her shift crosses the official end of a temporary college closing, the employee shall be compensated in accordance with this policy for any uninterrupted time worked after midnight as if the college is still temporarily closed. Any salaried employee required to work during a time the college is temporarily closed shall be paid at his/her straight-time rate of pay.
