Johnson County Community College
Series 300: Student Personnel
Section 319: Student Rights and Responsibilities
The college will make every effort to comply with the provisions of the
Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act of 1974. The act was designed to
(1) protect the privacy of educational records, (2) establish the right of
students to inspect and review their educational records, and (3) provide
guidelines for the correction of inaccurate or misleading data through
informal and formal hearings. Students who feel their rights under this
act have been violated may file a complaint with the Family Educational
Rights and Privacy Office (FERPA) concerning alleged failure of the
institution to comply.
Procedures for compliance with the act will be published annually in the
college catalog and will be available for student review in the Vice
President of Student Services Office.
The college will comply with the Kansas Open Records Act, K.S.A. 45-215 et
seq. (as amended). The act is to be liberally construed and applied to
promote compliance.
