The greater Kansas City area and specifically Johnson County have numerous biological-, pharmaceutical- and chemical-related formulating, manufacturing, research and testing companies. Many of these facilities employ scientific technicians to support the endeavors of their professional scientists and engineers.

JCCC’s science technology program is designed to develop scientific support personnel for the metropolitan area.

CLS: CSI for the Living (PowerPoint file) - Clinical Laboratory Sciences:  Prepares students to work in Laboratory Medicine as certified Clinical Laboratory Scientists (also called Medical Technologists). Bachelor’s degree with 2 years prerequisites available at JCCC and degree completion at University of Kansas Medical Center in the School of Allied Health.

Kansas City Area Life Sciences

The Kansas City Area Life Sciences Institute is the coordinating body leading Kansas City’s transformation into a center of excellence in life sciences research and development. A not-for-profit organization, the Life Sciences Institute serves as facilitator, matchmaker and potential funding organization for collaborative research that may lead to new discoveries to more effectively treat a wide range of diseases, develop new drugs and medical devices, and guide best medical practices.

Bio-Link

Bio-Link is a National Advanced Technological Education (ATE) Center for Biotechnology that originated in late 1998 with a grant from the National Science Foundation. The ATE program was created to improve and expand educational programs that prepare skilled technicians to work in the high-tech fields that drive the U.S. economy.

KansasBio is a state affiliate organization of the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO). BIO is a national organization representing more than 1,000 biotechnology companies, academic institutions, state biotechnology centers and related organizations in all 50 U.S. states and 33 other nations. KansasBio enjoys the benefits of membership in BIO as well as the Council of State Bioscience Affiliates.
