The program offers more comprehensive classes and hands-on experience than any other two-year college in the metropolitan area. An extensive media internship program, combined with 12 courses ranging from print to broadcast and from advertising to public relations, provides a strong foundation to transfer to a four-year degree program, a career in media or advancement in a current job.

More than 100 types of internships, offered through 75 companies, provide the opportunity to take classroom learning into the real world of supervised, on-the-job training-and earn college credit at the same time. Internships at radio and television stations, newspapers, magazines and video production firms are available.

These opportunities are available during your freshman year. You can't get this kind of experience in your first or even second year at many four-year schools.

JCCC's classes transfer to four-year schools. Area colleges, including KU, K-State, Washburn and others, accept the transfer of up to 12 credits in journalism and media communications classes taken at JCCC.

Classes are taught by experienced professionals who maintain their professional skills by working in the media on a daily basis.

Have you seen JCAV?

Our student-produced TV news magazine program airs news and feature stories relating to student life both on and off campus.

Students in Advanced Video Production and Advanced Broadcast Performance work collaboratively on the program which airs regularly on the college's cable channel (Time Warner of Overland Park, Channel 17; Comcast of Olathe, Channel 22 and Everest Cable of Johnson County, Channel 17).

These courses, like our other journalism and media courses, provide students with real-world, hands-on experiences. Check it out!
