Caroling for Cash
Sixteen OPL members and one OPL member's mom celebrated the holiday season by singing our favorite holiday songs throughout campus as we collected cash to be donated to Harvesters. This event generated $917.

Christmas in October
The Christmas in October project provides needed home repair assistance to homeowners who lack the skills or resources necessary to undertake the repairs themselves. The homeowners are primarily the elderly and disabled, but homeowners with young children, who lack the financial resources and skills to make necessary repairs to their homes, are also assisted. This year, 53 volunteers worked on three houses. |

United Way Annual Campaign
The United Way is a volunteer-led nonprofit organization located in a geographic community that seeks and addresses the root causes of key issues, is accountable for stewardship of resources, and is accountable for short-term and long-term results. This year, 262 employees donated $68,819. |

Christmas in October, October 13, 2007
Thirty-five participants worked on three houses. JCCC has been active in this community project for over 15 years.
Special Olympics Events at JCCC
Twenty volunteers participated in the volleyball tournament on Oct. 21, 2007.
Twenty volunteers participated in the basketball/cheerleading tournament on Feb. 23, 2008.
St. Aloysius Dental Fair, JCCC, Dec. 1, 2007
Thirty-eight volunteers from the dental hygiene program worked with100 patients through Score One for Health, Deron Cherry Foundation’s health screening for school-age children.
Fall Honors Forum, December 4, 2007
The class organized and hosted an informational panel on the homeless and hunger in Johnson County with panel members from Johnson County Family Lodge, Olathe Family Resource Center, Shawnee Community Services and SafeHome. Donations were collected and distributed to these organizations.
University of Kansas Medical Center, fall 2007
Interior design students redesigned the waiting room of KUMC’s Child Development Center.
Anthropology Department Initiatives, 2007-2008
A Holiday Adopt-A-Family project with the University of Kansas Medical Center and El Centro benefited seven local Indian and Hispanic families. An American Indian Council Christmas Toy Drive provided 250 toys for needy Indian families in a four-state area. Volunteers served as translators for October’s Latino Health Fair with the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Community Emergency Response Team (C.E. R.T. training)
Through trainings in November 2007 and March 28, 26 JCCC employees received emergency response training, as did seven students who did so as a service-learning component of a chemistry class.
Las Pintas, Mexico, Annual International Service-Learning Trips, spring 2008
In March, 29 students, faculty and staff from the nursing and respiratory care programs traveled to Las Pintas to provide health assessments, treatment and health education in this impoverished community. In June, 21 students, faculty and staff from the dental hygiene and early childhood education programs assisted with dental examinations and treatments as well as educational programs for children and parents.

Thirty-eight JCCC students and 12 faculty and staff members volunteered to work with 41 campers.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Drive for Catholic Charities in Olathe, March-April 2008
The college community donated 150 jars of jelly.
Student Environmental Alliance
18th Annual Blue River Rescue project, April 5, 2008
Five SEA members, three botany students and two faculty participated.
American Indian Health Research and Education Alliance Health and Wellness Pow Wow, May 3, 2008
Fifty student volunteers worked with representatives from federal, state and local agencies to screen approximately 1,000 people for health issues.
International Program, spring 2008
The International Club led a 5-week spring clothing drive to benefit the Don Bosco Center. Nine international students made community presentations.
Spring Honors Forum, May 2007
The class produced a video on illiteracy, including interviews with Johnson County Family Lodge, HeadStart and Center of Grace. The students conducted a book drive with donations being given to those agencies.
Service-Learning, fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters
In 2007-2008, 490 students in 28 courses, encouraged by 29 professors, completed service learning projects at more than 100 community sites, providing almost 10,000 hours of service.
