What is the Global English Institute?
The Global English Institute serves English language (ESL) learners who want to improve their English proficiency and cultural understanding for academic degree preparation and a rewarding career.

How am I placed into classes/levels in the Global English Institute?
The Global English Institute has four levels of classes from beginning to advanced. You are given a placement test before classes begin and a diagnostic test in each class during the first week of the semester to determine your level. Based on your test scores, you are placed in the correct level.

What is the average class size and how many hours a week will I attend class?
Classes generally have up to 15 to 20 students in the room. Most classes meet three hours per week. Depending on your level, you may be in two to three English classes for a total of six to nine hours per week.

Do I need to have computer skills for my classes?
Yes, computer skills are important so you can create documents and access software as a part of your course work. You are responsible for acquiring the necessary computer skills to be successful in your class.

How long does it take to learn English?
This question has no correct answer. It depends on your motivation, the length and intensity of the lessons, and on your exposure to English outside of class. Generally, students starting at the beginning level will need about four semesters of intensive study.

What extracurricular programs or services does JCCC offer students?
Students have access to a wide variety of on-campus events and facilities. Students can participate in our active, friendly International Club and have the opportunity to talk to an American through our free Conversation Partners Program.
