Effective November 30, 2008, JCCC student email was upgraded to Google Apps email.  The following are common questions and answers to help you during this transition.

Will my e-mail address change?

No. Only the system that delivers your e-mail will change. Your e-mail address will stay the same – username@stumail.jccc.edu.

What will I expect to see when I log into MyJCCC after December 1, 2008?

Are students required to use the new Google Apps account for JCCC?
Yes. All official communication from JCCC will be directed to a student’s Google e-mail account.

How do I activate my Google Apps account for JCCC?
1.      Login to MyJCCC.
2.      Under JCCC Links, click on “Activate your Google account.”
3.      The first time you login to your Google Apps account, you will be presented with a captcha (security form) and Google’s terms of service.

How do I forward my Google Apps account?

If you configured your old stumail account to forward messages to another e-mail account, you will need to re-establish the mail forwarding function in your new Google Apps account. Follow the instructions at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=10957.

Will staff and faculty at JCCC have a Google Apps account?

As a JCCC faculty and staff member, you will not receive a Google Apps account unless you have taken a credit, continuing education or staff development class at JCCC.

Can I use my Google Apps account for JCCC after I graduate?

Currently, students still have access to their JCCC stumail account for an unlimited time after they either graduate from JCCC or stop attending. However, this practice is under discussion and may be changed in the future.

Is the Google Apps account accessible for students with disabilities?

Google’s e-mail service is available in a basic HTML format that includes shortcut keys and should be compatible with some screen readers. See the following links:

What services are included with my Google Apps account?

E-mail is the only service enabled for the Google Apps accounts at this time. Additional services may be added in the future, but nothing is scheduled at this time.

What are the limitations on file sizes for my Google Apps account?

You can send and receive e-mail messages up to 20 MB in size, including attachments.

What if I already have a personal Google/Gmail account?

The Google Apps account for JCCC is completely separate from any existing Google/Gmail account you might have.

When will Google add new features to Google Apps? Will JCCC let me know when those features are available?

Google updates its applications on a regular basis without notification, so JCCC is not able to let you know beforehand. All applications should be considered Google’s property. Any feature requests should be directed to Google and not JCCC.

Why are the services available for the Google Apps account for JCCC different from similar services publicly provided by Google?

The Google Apps accounts for JCCC have been customized for optimal educational collaboration. For example, as a student, you will not see advertisements on your Google Apps account. However, you will see the JCCC name and logo at the top of the page.

Where are the Google Apps accounts housed?

The accounts are housed at Google’s data centers.
