How do I use my Access Card?

To Open a Door:

  • Hold your HID proximity card approximately two inches from the face of the Reader
  • You will hear a beep, then you will hear the lock disengage.
  • Remove card immediately away from the face of the reader after you hear the beep
  • Open the door

To Lock a Door:

  • Hold your HID proximity card approximately two inches from the face of the Reader
  • You will hear a beep, then you will hear the lock engage.
  • Remove card immediately from the face of the reader after you hear the beep
  • Close the door and confirm that the door is locked

The HID Proximity Card has the ability to read from inside a pocket, billfold or purse as long as the user gets the card within two inches of the face of the reader.

The HID Proximity Card will not work if the user has two proximity cards. We have found that several of our staff/faculty members have HID proximity cards for several facilities. Under these circumstances, the card users must separate their cards in order for them to operate properly.

Do Not Wave the HID Proximity Card over the face of the Reader! If you do this type of action with the card you will send multiple commands to the reader. The reader can only understand one command at a time.
