Facilitated by Marziah Karch, senior analyst in educational technology at JCCC and Paul Decelles, professor of biology at JCCC
“Early Childhood Education” workshop
Facilitated by Marguerite Durbin, Olathe School District early childhood teacher. For paraprofessionals and teachers working with children ages 3-5
“What Every Student with an Autism Spectrum Disorder Wants You to know about Their Educational Needs”
Facilitated by Katherine Cook, PhD., Early Childhood Autism Specialist, Harmony Early Childhood Center. For teachers and paraprofessionals working with children ages 6 and up
“Families Waiting for a Diagnosis”
Facilitated by present by Kansas Instruction Support and Network (KISN) and Families Together. This workshop will focus on information families need while waiting on a diagnosis.
“Just a Behavior: Managing the Behavior in Autism”
Facilitated by Jeanne Holverstott from the Responsive Center for Psychology and Learning in Overland Park, Kan.
“First Responders” workshop
Facilitated by Dennis Debbaudt, author and co-author of more than 30 articles and books since 1993, including "Autism, Advocates and Law Enforcement Professionals". This session, in the new Emergency Medical Science facility on campus, will give tools and awareness training to police and medical personnel on the disposition of autism in emergency circumstances.
“Self-Advocacy and Transition to Adulthood” workshop
Facilitated by Mark Foster, JCCC professor of sociology, and Scott Robertson , a third year doctorate student studying information sciences and technology at Penn State University. This session will focus on building students’ abilities needed to transition from high school to college or work.

“The Mission Project: An Alternative for Independent Living”
Facilitated by Lawrence A. Rouse. The Mission Project was established in 2004 as an alternative for persons with developmental disabilities to living at home with their parents or siblings or in a group home.
“Planning for the Future of Your Child with Special Needs”
Facilitated by Scott Adams. This workshop will help parents to better understand the planning which their children will need during all stages of life.
“Heal the Body, Heal the Mind”
Facilitated by Susan M. Anschutz, DC. This workshop is a review of the testing done by Biomedical Intervention.Why we do it and what it means.
“Kansas Home Community Based Services/Autism Waiver”
Facilitated by Pamela S. Keller, LMSW. This workshop gives a brief overview of the development of the Autism Waiver, identifies the targeted population for the waiver, and describes the services available to families with children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum.
“Community Development Disabilities Organization (CDDO)”
Facilitated by Rebecca Iveson, CDDO Intake and Referral Specialist, and Jill Montaleone, CDDO Access Specialist. This workshop presents information on access to funding and services for children and adults with developmental disabilities. We will discuss eligibility, ages served through our primary funding stream HCBS MR/DD Waiver, and services provided to those who qualify.
“Autistics Who Changed the World”
Facilitated by Norm Ledgin. A selection of famous people whose lives and behavior indicate they were on the autism spectrum.
“A Mother’s and Son’s Perspectives on Asperger Syndrome”
Facilitated by Lisa Barrett Mann, MSEd, and her son David MannADS. Specialist Lisa Barrett Mann and her
14-year-old son David reflect on his experiences as a gifted child with Asperger Syndrome.
“Effective Methods for Children and Youth with Autism Spectrum Disorders”
Facilitated by Dr. Richard Simpson, Professor of Special Education, University of Kansas. This session focuses on issues and trends that impact the education of children and youth diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders.
“How to Make the Transition to Adulthood Beneficial for Individuals with Asperger Syndrome: A Focus on Improving Self-Determination and Employment Outcomes”
Facilitated by Beth Clavenna-Deane, Graduate Research Assistant, KU TransCert and Beach Center on Disability, University of Kansas.
“Medications: Understanding Medication Usage for Co-Occuring Conditions in Autism and Asperger
Children and Adolescents”

“Successful Community Integration Through Social Skills and Family Support”
Facilitated by Dr. Debra Kamps, Senior Scientist Life Span Institute, and Associate Director, Juniper Gardens Children’s Project, KU Life Span Institute. Our mission is to establish a center of state and national significance to address the growing numbers of children identified with ASD and their families through university-affiliated research and training.
