Local Outside Scholarships updated by JCCC per the request of the agency that has contacted the JCCC Financial Aid Office (FAO). The Details of the scholarships are listed in alphabetical order.

Local Outside Scholarships are funds from various organizations, companies, agencies, and private individuals not administered nor awarded by JCCC. Students must meet various agency restrictions, which may include academic achievement, special talent, leadership ability, group affiliation, career plans, ancestry, geographic location, financial need, gender, and race.

JCCC Students may contact the Financial Aid Office (FAO) to receive printed information on the following scholarships. Individuals outside the JCCC community can find information about scholarship listings in the reference section of public or college libraries or accessing the following links to outside searches:

National Outside Scholarship Searches

Abbot & Fenner Business Consultants

Recipients: High school juniors or seniors, or students currently registered in an accredited post secondary institution between the ages of 16 and 30.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Write an essay of less than 1,000 words from two options provided by the donor.
Application Deadline: June 20

Accountants, National Society

Recipients: Accounting students entering their second, third or fourth year.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 - $2,000.
Requirements of Applicant: Students majoring in accounting with a "B" or better grade point average. Students enrolled in a degree program at an accredited 2-year or 4 year college or university. Only U.S. or Canadian citizens attending a U.S. accredited business school, college or university may apply.

American Business Women's Assoc MO KAN Chaper

Recipients: Women in their second year of study.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale, studying at Johnson County Community College, Longview Community College or Penn Valley Community College.
Application Deadline: Received prior to March 31

American Dental Association Foundation

Recipients: Scholarship for dental students and underrepresented minority dental students attending a school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $2,500
Requirements of Applicant: U S Citizen, financial need, full-time student, GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
Application Deadline: October 19

American Society of Mechanical Engineers - Kansas City Sect.

Recipients: Full time mechanical engineering student who belongs to American Society of Mechanical Engineering. Students can become members by visiting www.asme.org to sign up.
Amount of Scholarship: $250 - $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Full time mechanical engineering student, be a student member of ASME, show financial need and be involved in extracurricular activities. See application for all that apply.

Angel & Maude Munoz Hispanic Scholarship

Recipients: Hispanic students that are enrolled in or applying for enrollment at JCCC or in a cosmetology program.
Amount of Scholarship: 25% of tuition, not to exceed $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Receiving a Pell Grant, have a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale, See application for all that applies.
Application Deadline: Ongoing, on a first come, first served basis.

BigSun Athletics Scholarship

Recipients: Student athletes who are participating in a sport at their high school or post secondary institution.
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Requirements of Applicant: All athletes. Apply by writing an essay.
Application Deadline: June 25

Bill Spaniol Memorial Scholarship

Recipients: Kansas high school seniors or other person entering a Kansas college or university, pursuing a degree in environmental science or related area.
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Requirements of Applicant: Maintain an over GPA of 3.0 with a GPA in their major field of study of 3.2 at the time of the application. Must also show an interest in the Biological or Physical Sciences. Provide 2 letters of reference as well as complete the personal inventory form.
Application Deadline: May 31

Brown Foundation - Teacher Quest Scholarship

Recipients: Students for minority students who have been formally admitted to a teacher education program and plan to enter the teaching profession.
Amount of Scholarship: Check scholarship information
Requirements of Applicant: Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, enrolled half-time, two letters of recommendation. See application for all that applies.
Application Deadline: March 20

Cancer Survivor's Program

The American Cancer Society's Heartland Division announces a program to help cancer survivors pay for college expenses.
Recipients: Residents of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma & Nebraska, Hawaii or Texas who are citizens of the U.S. and have had a cancer diagnosis before the age of 21 and are 25 years old or younger when applying.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,500 will be awarded, limited to availability of funds.
Requirements of Applicant: Applicants must have been accepted to an accredited university, community college, or vocational technical school and be 25 years of age or younger at the time of application. See web site for all requirements.

Chemical Society, American

Recipients: Candidates must be African-American, Hispanic/Latino or Native American and seeking undergraduate college degrees in the chemical sciences.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $2,500 for freshmen; up to $3,000 for sophomores, $5,000 for juniors and seniors.
Requirements of Applicant: U.S. citizen or permanent resident of U.S.; full-time student; high academic achievers in chemistry or science; FAFSA

Community College Scholarships - Coca-Cola Scholars Found.

Recipients: Students attending a two-year institution and planning on acquiring an Associates degree.
Amount of Scholarship: Annually awards approximately 400 scholarships of $1,000 or $2,000.
Requirements of Applicant: Each campus can nominate one student. Students must have a GPA of 2.5, community service, employed part-time or full-time, and be enrolled in at least two courses during the upcoming fall term at a two-year institution. Must be planning to acquire an Associates degree from their institution.
Application Deadline: Application is available beginning in March with a deadline of May 31

Community College Scholarships - Jack Kent Cooke Foundation

Recipients: Scholarships available for current students, recent alumni, and those ready to transfer to a four-year college.
Amount of Scholarship: Approximately 50 scholarships worth up to $30,000 per year.
Requirements of Applicant: Each campus can nominate two students or recent alumni. See web for complete information. The Foundation seeks applicants with academic excellence and unmet financial need, among other criteria.
Application Deadline: February 1

Community College Scholarships - Hispanic Scholarship Fund

Recipients: Applicants must be of Hispanic heritage; be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
Amount of Scholarship: 200 scholarships of $1,250 and $2,500 for students transferring from a two-year college to a four-year institution.
Requirements of Applicant: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and apply for federal financial aid using the FAFSA. Application is on line, see contact information below.

Continuing Education Scholarship, Almedia Greever

Recipients: Must be a graduate of a Winfield High School in Winfield, KS.
Amount of Scholarship: $750
Requirements of Applicant: Must have completed a minimum of 2 semesters of college course work with a grade point average of at least 2.5.

Council of Clubs Kansas City Scholarship

Recipients: Youth of the metropolitan Kansas City Area. Must be attending a Missouri or Kansas technical school, college or university, within a 50-mile radius of Tenth and Main Streets, Kansas City, MO.
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Requirements of Applicant: Have a B average from the previous semester, shown leadership potential and financial need. See application for all that apply.

Dane G. Hansen Community College Scholarship

Recipients: for students who graduated from a high school in one of the 26 designated counties of Northwest Kansas.
Amount of Scholarship: $2,000
Requirements of Applicant: Must have completed a minimum of 32 hours of college credit by the spring semester and who ware transferring to a four-year accredited public, private or church related Kansas college or university. a 3.0 Grape Point Average is required along with good character and leadership qualities. Three letters of reference are required.

Early Childhood Professional Development Scholarship

Recipients: 18 years or older, seeking a degree in Early Education, work in a licensed Center or Family Child Care Home that is working toward quality improvement.
Amount of Scholarship: Covers tuition, fees and books.
Requirements of Applicant: Must be working at licensed Center of Family Child Care Home for minimum of 30 days and completed the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid).
Application Deadline: March 13 for Summer Semester, June 19 for following Fall Semester and October 16 for following Spring Semester.

AES Engineering Solutions

Engineers Club of Kansas City

Recipients: Greater Kansas City area resident pursuing an accredited engineering degree.
Amount of Scholarship: Varies
Requirements of Applicant: See application for all that apply does require proof of financial need.

Executive Women International ASIST Program

Recipients: Scholarships for students who have financial need, socially, physically and economically disadvantaged adult who are heads of households with small children.
Amount of Scholarship: Up $1,500.
Requirements of Applicant: Utilize a re-entry program, have clearly defined career goals and objectives, submit statement of financial need, tax return, 2 letters of recommendation. JCCC must sponsor your application - contact the Director of Financial Aid. Must reside in area served by the Kansas City Chapter of Executive Women International. See the application for all requirements.

Gilman International Scholarship

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship

Recipients: Must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant, applying or accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's institution of high education in the U.S. This scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $5,000 per scholarship.
Requirements of Applicant: Federal Pell Grant eligible, study abroad program for creidt, at least four weeks in one country. See application for all requirements.

Gates Millennium Scholars Program

Recipients: Low income, minority students who will be enrolling for the first time at an accredited college or university for the following fall semester full time. Must be a U S citizen or national or legal permanent resident.
Amount of Scholarship: $300 to $1,200
Requirements of Applicant: Must have a GPA of 3.3 on unweighted 4.0 scare or earned a GED, be Pell Grant eligible, as determined by filing the FAFSA, demonstrate leadership abilities. See web site for all criteria required.
Application Deadline: Postmarked by January 11 or submitted on line by this date for following fall, summer deadline is June 19 and GMS renewal applications are due July 24.

Givens/Mounkes Memorial Scholarship c/o Lenexa Optimist Club

Recipients: Incoming freshmen or recent high school graduates
Amount of Scholarship: Tuition only up to $1,000 a semester.
Requirements of Applicant: Johnson County resident, incoming freshman or recent high school graduate

Greater Lee's Summit Health Care Foundation

Recipients: Students pursuing a health care degree in the following areas: medical school, nursing school RN or BSN, or pharmacy school. Must currently live in Lee's Summit, MO or graduated from area high school, including Blue Springs HS.
Amount of Scholarship: $4,000 - 6,000
Requirements of Applicant: Must have a GPA of 3.0, completed one year in their chosen field of study, provide three letters of recommendation. See application for all that apply.

Greater Salina Community Foundation Scholarships

Recipients: Varies by scholarships, but check their web page for scholarships. Kansas residency is required for most scholarships, some are for students transferring to a 4-year Kansas institution. One specifically for community college student is the Hale Family Sunflower Promise.

Gwendolyne Hawley Trust Scholarship

Recipients: Students who are Kansas residents and are blind or visually impaired.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 - $1,800
Requirements of Applicant: Sponsor such as teacher or counselor, enrolled in at least 9 credit hours. See application for all that applies.
Application Deadline: Received by March 30

HACU-Hispanic Assoc. of Colleges & Universities Schloarships

Recipients: Students within specific programs of study.
Amount of Scholarship:varies
Requirements of Applicant: GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, studying a HACU-member College, including JCCC.
Application Deadline: Received prior to May 22

Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society (HIAS)

Recipients: HIAS assisted refugees or asylees.
Amount of Scholarship: $2000.
Requirements of Applicant: Must be a refugee or asylee who were assisted by HIAS to come to the U.S. You must have immigrated after January 1, 1992. See application for other requirements
Application Deadline: February 24 - applications available in mid December.

Home Depot Trade Scholarship

Recipients: Students currently enrolled in a building and construction trade school program at a college, university or accredited educational institution.
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Requirements of Applicant: See scholarship application for all that apply. Open to students who are entering their final year or tem of the degree work or career program.
Application Deadline: June 20

Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarship

Recipients: Student or the child of a parent who works at a Hy-Vee location or subsidiary. See scholarship criteria for how this differs for a high senior verses a college student.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,000.
Requirements of Applicant: Full time student, references, transcript and/or ACT score and your personal statement of your future goals. See web site for all that apply.

infoComm International AV Scholarship

Recipients: Scholarships for students who are pursuing post-secondary education for a career in audiovisual industry.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,200 - $1,500
Requirements of Applicant: Minimum GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale, enrolled 3/4 time (9 credit hours), two letters of recommendation. See application for all that applies.

Insurance, CPCU, Percy S. Lorie Scholarship

Recipients: Students who have completed 90 hours of college level classes.
Amount of Scholarship: $2,000
Requirements of Applicant: Students majoring in insurance or a related field (such as math or accounting, but not limited to) and have insurance-related work experience.
Application Deadline: October 1

IFMA Kansas City Chapter

Recipients: Must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student or a part-time graduate student enrolled in a Kansas or Missouri College or University.
Amount of Scholarship: Minimum of $500, may be more depending on the number of qualified applicants.
Requirements of Applicant: Student must be in curriculum relating to facility management. Those curriculums include, but are not limited to, the study of interior design, architecture, engineering, business operations, construction science and environmental design. Must be a full time student.
Application Deadline: Must be postmarked by March 19

ISA - Educational Foundation Scholarship

Recipients: Scholarships for students attending college or university who is enrolled in a program in instrumentation, systems, or automation discipline.
Amount of Scholarship: Unknown.
Requirements of Applicant: Must be enrolled at a college or university, have a 3.0 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale.
Application Deadline: Must be postmarked by February 16 and received by February 26

Kansas Board of Regents for Kansas Residents

Requirements of Applicant: Requirements vary depending upon which scholarship you are applying for and date of graduation. See application.

Kansas Foster & Adoptive Children Fund

Recipients: Students who are or have been foster children in Kansas, including those who have been adopted.
Amount of Scholarship: Varies
Requirements of Applicant: Check with the Greater Kansas City Community Foundation for all that applies.
Application Deadline: Applications are accepted year around, awards will be made on August and January of each year.

Kansas Nurses Foundation

Recipients: Kansas resident pursuiting an RN degree or higher.
Amount of Scholarship: $300 to $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Have a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale, provide 3 confidential letters of recommendation, proof of acceptance in the nursing program. See application for all that apply.
Application Deadline: June 30

Kansas Nutrition Council

Recipients: Students studying to be a nutritionist, usually must be a Junior or Senior level student.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,000.
Requirements of Applicant: Must be a Kansas resident, see application form for all that apply.
Application Deadline: March 1

Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants

Recipients: Kansas high school seniors entering a Kansas college or univerisity, pursuing an accounting degree.
Amount of Scholarship: Varies - $500 and up
Requirements of Applicant: Rank high in the ACT or SAT examination, attend a Kansas university or college and plan to major in accounting.
Application Deadline: March 9 for ACT/SAT test scores, completed questionnaire/essay is April 20

Legacy Foundation for the Arts

Recipients: Student in an intensive study programs in piano, voice - classical, musical theatre and dance. Students must be between the ages of 12 and 22 and reside or attend school with a 75 mile radius of Kansas City.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: See scholarship application for all that apply and other criteria. There is a $10 submission fee.
Application Deadline: Postmarked by February 8

LIFE LESSONS - Loss of a Parent

Recipients: College and college-bound students between ages of 17 - 24 who have experienced the death of a parent or legal guardian.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 to $5,000
Requirements of Applicant: Submit an essay (500 words max) or a video (3-minutes max) describing how losing a parent or guardian affected them emotionally and financially. See application for all requirements that apply.
Application Deadline: April 18 (Application is available approximately one month prior to deadline)

MALDEF Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund

Recipients: One of the goals of MALDEF is to encourage all students, regardless of immigration status, to seek private scholarships for their educational expenses.
Amount of Scholarship: Varies by scholarship.
Requirements of Applicant: See scholarships for all that apply.
Application Deadline: Varies by scholarship.

Marine Corps Scholarship

Recipients: Son or daughter of a Marine on active duty or in the Reserve or of a former Marine or Marine Reservist who received an Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or who was killed while in the service of our country. You may also be considered if your are the son or daughter of an active duty, reserve or former U.S. Navy Corpsman who is serving or has served, with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 to $10,000
Requirements of Applicant: Applicant must be a high school senior, or high school graduate, or be enrolled in an undergraduate or post high school accredited college, university or vocational/technical school. Minimum GPA of 2.0. Maximum family adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less as shown on IRS tax forms. Income requirement is waived for any applicant whose parent was killed in combat in the Global War on Terror.
Application Deadline: March 1 for graduating high school seniors and April 15 for all other students.

Medical Alliance of the Metro Medical Society of Greater KC

Recipients: Student who is accepted into an accredited college or university program and pursuing a career in nursing or other allied health career such as occupation therapy or physical therapy.

Recipients: Dependent unmarried children under the age of 23 of members of the military - see web site for all who are eligible.
Amount of Scholarship: $1500 from each Commissary location with qualified applicants.
Requirements of Applicant: Applicants should ensure that they, as well as their sponsor, are currently enrolled in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS) database and that they have a current ID card. Recipients: Scholarships for students who are pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) discipline at an accredited college or university in the United States. Especially want undeserved populations to apply: women, African Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and persons with disabilities.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to one-half of tuition and fees not to exceed $10,000.
Requirements of Applicant: U. S. Citizen, reside in the US or Territories of the U. S., full-time student, GPA of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale, pursuing a degree in physical science, technology, engineering or mathematics.

Nursing Scholarship, Kansas Board of Regents

Recipients: Kansas resident; admitted to nursing degree program at an eligible Kansas postsecondary institution and commitment by an eligible sponsor to fund up to half of the scholarship and provide full-time employment to the recipient within 6 months after licensure.
Amount of Scholarship: LPN students are eligible for $2,500 and RN student are eligible for $3,500. Sponsors pay from $1,000 to one-half of the scholarship and the State of Kansas pays the remaining amount.
Requirements of Applicant: Completed FAFSA; Kansas resident; admitted to nursing degree program at an eligible Kansas postsecondary institution; obtain sponsorship from a medical provider for whom you want to work.
Application Deadline: FAFSA must be processed by May 1st and the nursing application should be submitted as soon as possible for best consideration. Awards are based on the receipt date of the Nursing Service Scholarship Application and will be made as long as funds are available. If conditions of are not met, this does become a loan.
