Financial Aid Office
(FAO). The Details of the scholarships are listed in alphabetical order.
Local Outside Scholarships are funds from various organizations, companies,
agencies, and private individuals not administered nor awarded by JCCC.
Students must meet various agency restrictions, which may include academic
achievement, special talent, leadership ability, group affiliation, career
plans, ancestry, geographic location, financial need, gender, and race.
JCCC Students may contact the Financial Aid Office (FAO)
to receive printed information on the following scholarships. Individuals

Abbot & Fenner Business Consultants
Recipients: High school juniors or seniors, or students currently
registered in an accredited post secondary institution between the ages of
16 and 30.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Write an essay of less than 1,000 words
from two options provided by the donor.

Accountants, National Society
Recipients: Accounting students
entering their second, third or fourth year.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 - $2,000.
Requirements of Applicant: Students majoring in accounting with a
"B" or better grade point average. Students enrolled in a degree program
at an accredited 2-year or 4 year college or university. Only U.S. or
Canadian citizens attending a U.S. accredited business school, college or
university may apply.

American Business Women's Assoc MO KAN Chaper
Recipients: Women in their second year of study.
Amount of Scholarship: $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale,
studying at Johnson County Community College, Longview Community College
or Penn Valley Community College.

American Dental Association Foundation
Recipients: Scholarship for dental students and underrepresented
minority dental students attending a school accredited by the Commission
on Dental Accreditation of the American Dental Association.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $2,500
Requirements of Applicant: U S Citizen, financial need, full-time
student, GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

American Society of Mechanical Engineers - Kansas City Sect.
Recipients: Full time mechanical engineering student who belongs to
American Society of Mechanical Engineering. Students can become members by
visiting www.asme.org to sign up.
Amount of Scholarship: $250 - $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Full time mechanical engineering
student, be a student member of ASME, show financial need and be involved

Angel & Maude Munoz Hispanic Scholarship
Recipients: Hispanic students that are enrolled in or applying for
enrollment at JCCC or in a cosmetology program.
Amount of Scholarship: 25% of tuition, not to exceed $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: Receiving a Pell Grant, have a 3.0 GPA
on a 4.0 scale, See application for all that applies.

BigSun Athletics Scholarship
Recipients: Student athletes who are participating in a sport at
their high school or post secondary institution.
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Requirements of Applicant: All athletes. Apply by writing an

Bill Spaniol Memorial Scholarship
Recipients: Kansas high school seniors or other person entering a
Kansas college or university, pursuing a degree in environmental science
or related area.
Amount of Scholarship: $500
Requirements of Applicant: Maintain an over GPA of 3.0 with a GPA
in their major field of study of 3.2 at the time of the application. Must
also show an interest in the Biological or Physical Sciences. Provide 2
letters of reference as well as complete the personal inventory form.

Brown Foundation - Teacher Quest Scholarship
Recipients: Students for minority students who have been formally
admitted to a teacher education program and plan to enter the teaching
profession.

enrolled half-time, two letters of recommendation. See application for

Cancer Survivor's Program
The American Cancer Society's Heartland Division announces a program to
help cancer survivors pay for college expenses.
Recipients: Residents of Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma & Nebraska,
Hawaii or Texas who are citizens of the U.S. and have had a cancer
diagnosis before the age of 21 and are 25 years old or younger when
applying.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,500 will be awarded, limited to
availability of funds.
Requirements of Applicant: Applicants must have been accepted to an
accredited university, community college, or vocational technical school
and be 25 years of age or younger at the time of application. See web

Recipients: Students attending a two-year institution and planning
on acquiring an Associates degree.
Amount of Scholarship: Annually awards approximately 400
scholarships of $1,000 or $2,000.
Requirements of Applicant: Each campus can nominate one student.
Students must have a GPA of 2.5, community service, employed part-time or
full-time, and be enrolled in at least two courses during the upcoming
fall term at a two-year institution. Must be planning to acquire an
Associates degree from their institution.

Community College Scholarships - Jack Kent Cooke Foundation
Recipients: Scholarships available for current students, recent
alumni, and those ready to transfer to a four-year college.
Amount of Scholarship: Approximately 50 scholarships worth up to
$30,000 per year.
Requirements of Applicant: Each campus can nominate two students or

applicants with academic excellence and unmet financial need, among other
criteria.

Community College Scholarships - Hispanic Scholarship Fund
Recipients: Applicants must be of Hispanic heritage; be a U.S.
citizen or legal permanent resident.
Amount of Scholarship: 200 scholarships of $1,250 and $2,500 for
students transferring from a two-year college to a four-year institution.
Requirements of Applicant: Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and apply
for federal financial aid using the FAFSA. Application is on line, see

Recipients: for students who graduated from a high school in one of
the 26 designated counties of Northwest Kansas.

to a four-year accredited public, private or church related Kansas college
or university. a 3.0 Grape Point Average is required along with good

Recipients: 18 years or older, seeking a degree in Early Education,
work in a licensed Center or Family Child Care Home that is working toward
quality improvement.
Amount of Scholarship: Covers tuition, fees and books.
Requirements of Applicant: Must be working at licensed Center of
Family Child Care Home for minimum of 30 days and completed the FAFSA
(Free Application for Federal Student Aid).

Recipients: Scholarships for students who have financial need,
socially, physically and economically disadvantaged adult who are heads of
households with small children.
Amount of Scholarship: Up $1,500.
Requirements of Applicant: Utilize a re-entry program, have clearly
defined career goals and objectives, submit statement of financial need,
tax return, 2 letters of recommendation. JCCC must sponsor your

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship
Recipients: Must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant, applying or
accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's
institution of high education in the U.S. This scholarship is sponsored
by the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural
Affairs.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $5,000 per scholarship.
Requirements of Applicant: Federal Pell Grant eligible, study

Scholarship Program
Gates Millennium Scholars Program
Recipients: Low income, minority students who will be enrolling for
the first time at an accredited college or university for the following
fall semester full time. Must be a U S citizen or national or legal
permanent resident.
Amount of Scholarship: $300 to $1,200
Requirements of Applicant: Must have a GPA of 3.3 on unweighted 4.0
scare or earned a GED, be Pell Grant eligible, as determined by filing the
FAFSA, demonstrate leadership abilities. See web site for all criteria

Recipients: HIAS assisted refugees or asylees.

Requirements of Applicant: Student must be in curriculum relating
to facility management. Those curriculums include, but are not limited
to, the study of interior design, architecture, engineering, business
operations, construction science and environmental design. Must be a full

Legacy Foundation for the Arts
Recipients: Student in an intensive study programs in piano, voice -
classical, musical theatre and dance. Students must be between the ages of
12 and 22 and reside or attend school with a 75 mile radius of Kansas City.
Amount of Scholarship: Up to $1,000
Requirements of Applicant: See scholarship application for all that

LIFE LESSONS - Loss of a Parent
Recipients: College and college-bound students between ages of 17 -
24 who have experienced the death of a parent or legal guardian.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 to $5,000
Requirements of Applicant: Submit an essay (500 words max) or a
video (3-minutes max) describing how losing a parent or guardian affected
them emotionally and financially. See application for all requirements

MALDEF Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund
Recipients: One of the goals of MALDEF is to encourage all students,
regardless of immigration status, to seek private scholarships for their
educational expenses.

Marine Corps Scholarship
Recipients: Son or daughter of a Marine on active duty or in the
Reserve or of a former Marine or Marine Reservist who received an
Honorable Discharge, Medical Discharge, or who was killed while in the
service of our country. You may also be considered if your are the son or
daughter of an active duty, reserve or former U.S. Navy Corpsman who is
serving or has served, with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Amount of Scholarship: $500 to $10,000
Requirements of Applicant:
Applicant must be a high school senior, or high school graduate, or be
enrolled in an undergraduate or post high school accredited college,
university or vocational/technical school. Minimum GPA of 2.0. Maximum
family adjusted gross income of $80,000 or less as shown on IRS tax forms.
Income requirement is waived for any applicant whose parent was killed in
combat in the Global War on Terror.

Nursing Scholarship, Kansas Board of Regents
Recipients: Kansas resident; admitted to nursing degree program at
an eligible Kansas postsecondary institution and commitment by an eligible
sponsor to fund up to half of the scholarship and provide full-time
employment to the recipient within 6 months after licensure.
Amount of Scholarship: LPN students are eligible for $2,500 and RN
student are eligible for $3,500. Sponsors pay from $1,000 to one-half of
the scholarship and the State of Kansas pays the remaining amount.
Requirements of Applicant: Completed FAFSA; Kansas resident;
admitted to nursing degree program at an eligible Kansas postsecondary
institution; obtain sponsorship from a medical provider for whom you want
to work.
Application Deadline: FAFSA must be processed by May 1st and the
nursing application should be submitted as soon as possible for best
consideration. Awards are based on the receipt date of the Nursing Service
Scholarship Application and will be made as long as funds are available.
